Kinja'd!!!

You have just been sentenced to a life sentence when it comes to your daily driver.

Would you keep what you drive right now ? Or get something else?

I daily a Jag with over 140k miles, so I guess my answer depends on whether the life sentence is for me or the car.

If you’re paying for maintenance, and by maintenance I mean throttle position actuators, I’d keep the M3.

I’d probably get rid of the 4Runner. Can’t live with 17 MPG forever. Maybe a Mini or possibly a Prius.

As long as my transmission doesn’t go out, I’d be okay with keeping my V6 Accord.

My 528i’s already driven to the moon, might as well see how much further it’ll take me.

There are worse places to be than an F10 535 with a 6 speed manual

Well, considering my current DD does everything I need it to (if badly for some things), I could probably cope. BUT, a lot depends on the terms of the question. Like, will the vehicle remain in its current state somehow, or do I need to go the rest of my life making repairs? Because my current DD will almost certainly suffer the consequences of having insane miles at some point.

An alternate might be a ‘93 foreign market (but importable next year!) quad-cab Mazda B series/Ford Courier. Worth an engine upgrade, but that’s easy.

I could see the engine in my E250 Bluetec lasting that long. Fingers crossed on the ICE bits. I wouldn’t mind it being a long term car. I’ve had the fintail for over 20 years now, but I think it is now a little too old for the daily grind.

I’d rather kill my self than be stuck in my current DD forever. Not sure what I’d choose but if money and parts are unlimited. You know a 2004 Cadillac Seville would be just fine.

I drive a 2500hd with the 6.0 gas, and assuming I don’t put it into a tree, the bodywork will just continue to get rougher and rougher, while the mechanicals keep ticking. With regular maintenance it’ll go 300k easy. It does everything I want, except sip gas so it would only be bad if I commuted a long way, and gas gets expensive again

If it has to be my only car I would turn the e36 m3 euro 3.0L back into a daily. (Maybe swap it into a wagon chassis). If it isn’t my only car I’m ok with my 328 e36 sedan, however I would like it in a wagon more. Parts are everywhere and there is a huge knowledge base for repairs. I see modern cars where everything is NLA (No Longer Available). And “domestic” cars where things are 2-3 weeks away, if they are available (longer than special order from Germany).

That’s already, somewhat, the plan with my Integra.

Assuming it’s a Cuba like situation where used cars are as much as a house and new ones just go up from there I would try to settle on something with a full frame so I could engine swap more easily. Older Toyota 4Runner would be something I could probably keep repairing forever. Just keep replacing and rebuilding until it’s powered by a crazy V8, adorned with skulls, and running through the wasteland.

Prelude parts aren’t going to be made for too much longer. I’ll go in the “something else” camp.

I’d trade my Corvair for a ‘64 ‘vert or ‘65-69 Corsa vert. Other than that. I’m pretty okay with it. Almost back to being a driver. I think I have a vacuum leak (dry and cracked rubber) and a dead battery left to deal with.

You don’t want a MINI after 100k unless you like spending car-payment sized chunks of cash on repairs. I spent 600 dollars on mine this week, just for parts to repair some of the issues it’s got, am looking at another 1k easily for other junk what needs doing, and this car is in REALLY good condition as far as MINI’s go. Just so expensive for everything, and things break often enough to be a hassle.

Well. That is why the Prius was a probably and the Mini was a maybe.
